25A Precision Bias Current Source for Testing Transformers & Chokes
A slim, lightweight and cost-effective current source for testing transformers and chokes that operate with up to 250A of dc bias current. The proprietary design of the DC1000 allows almost any LCR meter* to make measurements of inductance and ac impedance in the presence of dc bias, without a significant effect on the ac measurement.

Design and Development:
DC1000 in use biasing a 10A power supply choke.
The LCR meter is used as normal to measure L, Q, Z, q etc at multiple ac voltage and frequency conditions.
* The proprietary design of the DC1000 means that, unlike other DC Bias Sources, it will operate with almost any LCR meter or impedance analyzer without having an effect on the ac measurement. Please contact Voltech before purchasing if you have any unusual requirements.
Production Test
DC1000 in production use with an ATi.
A 20A SMD choke is being tested at high speed. 4 measurements are made in a few seconds: DC resistance, then inductance and Q factor (with DC bias applied), and then the insulation resistance of the winding to core is checked at 100V.
When used with a Voltech AT Series tester, the versatile DC1000 may be programmed using the standard AT Editor software such that tests with dc bias may be performed automatically at high speed. With it's unique output isolation a DC1000 and AT3600 combined can perform a sequence of tests including small signal ac measurements at high current dc bias conditions together with high voltage tests, such as 4kV isolation, in one complete test sequence and without operator intervention.
